As a Dentist at the Cherokee County Dental Department at the Georgia Department of Public Health, you will join a dedicated group of public health professionals that help support the overall mission and vision of protecting the lives of Georgian residents in a variety of ways.

Location: The Cherokee County Dental Department in Canton, GA.

This position will work a maximum of 16 hours per week.

Job Responsibilities

Under general supervision, diagnoses, treats, prevents, and controls disorders of the teeth and mouth including gums and related oral structures. May treat diseases of nerve, pulp, and other dental tissues affecting vitality of teeth.

Primary Duties And Responsibilities

  • Supervises, guides, and/or instructs the work assignments of subordinate staff.
  • Diagnoses, treats, prevents, and controls disorders of the teeth and mouth including gums and related oral structures. These procedures will be for minor patients up to the nineteenth birthday.
  • Advises and instructs patients regarding preventative dental care, the causes and treatment of dental problems, and oral health care services.
  • Diagnoses and treats diseases, injuries, malformation of teeth, gums, and related oral structures. Provides preventative and corrective services.
  • Examines teeth, gums, and related tissues using dental instruments, x-rays, and other diagnostic equipment to evaluate dental health, diagnose diseases or abnormalities, and plan appropriate treatments.
  • Formulates a plan of treatment for the patient's teeth and mouth issues.
  • Provides treatments to complete the treatment plan.
  • Supervises and plans the workload of support staff.
  • Uses air turbine, hand instruments, dental appliances, and surgical implements.
  • Uses masks, gloves, and safety glasses to protect themselves and their patients from infectious diseases.
  • Writes prescriptions for antibiotics and other medications.
  • Designs, coordinates, and oversees internal projects.
  • May serve as lead worker.
  • May train subordinate staff in proper procedures of day-to-day operations.
  • Other duties as assigned by supervisor.

Minimum Qualifications

Doctorate or professional degree in dentistry from an accredited college or university AND one (1) year of experience AND a current Georgia license to practice dentistry.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience using a Phosphor Plate Radiograph System.
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish.

Current State employees are subject to State Personnel Board rules regarding salary.

CBH accepts educational credential recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) and/or the US Department of Education (DOE) will be considered.

Some positions require pre-employment drug testing in which the applicant who is offered the position will be required to successfully complete.
