As a Dental Assistant within the Cherokee County Dental Department at the Georgia Department of Public Health
, you will join a dedicated group of public health professionals that help support the overall mission and vision of protecting the lives of Georgian residents in a variety of ways.
Location: Cherokee County Health Department in Canton, GA.
This is an hourly position that works up to 29 hours per week max.
Job Responsibilities
Under direct supervision, learns to assist the dentist and/or hygienist in chair-side dentistry. Prepares dental instruments. May perform administrative duties.
Primary Duties & Responsibilities
- Assists dentist in management of medical and dental emergencies.
- Exposes dental diagnostic x-rays.
- Instructs clients in oral hygiene and plaque control programs.
- Makes preliminary impressions for study casts and occlusal registrations for mounting study casts.
- Pours, trims, and polishes study casts.
- Prepares client for procedures.
- Prepares materials and assists dentist during dental procedures.
- Sterilizes and disinfects instruments.
- Sets up instrument trays.
- Provides post operative instructions prescribed by the dentist.
- Records treatment information in client records.
- Takes and records medical and dental histories.
- Takes and records vital signs of client.
- Receives additional training, as required, to gain full proficiency and experience in all areas.
- Other duties as assigned by supervisor.
Minimum Qualifications
High school diploma/GED AND six (6) months of experience in a dental setting.
OR
Vocational/Technical degree in dental assisting from an accredited college.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bilingual in English and Spanish.
- Familiar with Phosphor Plate Digital Radiographs.

Current State employees are subject to State Personnel Board rules regarding salary.
CBH accepts educational credential recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) and/or the US Department of Education (DOE) will be considered.
All positions require criminal history record check. Required education credentials, license, certification and/or registration must be submitted prior to employment in the position. Some positions require pre-employment drug testing in which the applicant who is offered the position will be required to successfully complete.
