Job summary

The Intercontinental St. Paul Riverfront is seeking a skilled Hotel Painter to maintain the appearance of guest rooms and public spaces. This union role emphasizes attention to detail and delivering a polished, welcoming environment for guests.

You will apply primers, paints, stains and wall coverings, prepare surfaces, read work orders, and work safely on ladders or scaffolding. Hospitality experience is a plus, and English proficiency is required.

Qualifications

• Experience as a journey-level painter in residential, commercial, industrial or facilities settings.
• Experience installing wall coverings, especially wall vinyl.
• Hospitality experience is a plus but not required.

• Mix colors and finishes to required shades.

• Mask surfaces and protect areas during painting.
• Read work orders and follow priorities from supervisors.

GENERAL PURPOSE

The Hotel, Painter is responsible for maintaining the appearance and quality of guest rooms and public spaces throughout the hotel. This union member role performs painting, wall repair, and wallpaper installation to ensure a clean, polished, and welcoming environment for guests. The ideal candidate has strong attention to detail, experience with painting and wall coverings and takes pride in keeping the property looking it’s best.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Apply primers or sealers to prepare new surfaces (such as bare wood or metal) for finish coats.
• Apply paint, stain, varnish, enamel or other finishes to equipment, buildings, or other structures, using brushes, spray guns or rollers.
• Mix and match colors of paint, stain or varnish with oil or thinning and drying additives to obtain desired colors and consistencies.
• Polish final coats to specified finishes.
• Install scaffolding or swing gates or set up ladders to work above ground level.
• Fill cracks, holes or joints with caulk, putty, plaster, or other fillers, using caulking guns or putty knives.
• Calculate amounts of required materials and estimate costs, based on surface measurements or work orders.
• Cover surfaces with drop cloths or masking tape and paper to protect surfaces during painting.
• Read work orders or receive instructions from supervisors to determine work priorities.
• Other duties as assigned by management.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS:

• Previous experience as a journey-level painter in a residential, commercial, industrial or facilities operation setting, both interior and exterior settings is required.
• Previous experience installing wallcovering, especially wall vinyl is required.
• Previous hospitality experience is preferred but not required.
• Must have strong attention to detail, while comfortable working in a multi-task, fast-paced environment.
• Must display very good organization and time management skills.
• Must display a positive, friendly, and professional demeanor.
• Must be able to speak, read, write, and comprehend English.
• Must be able to preform all essential duties and responsibilities with or without reasonable accommodation.

PHYSICAL ENVIRONMENT:

• Visual Color discrimination, the ability to match or detect differences between colors, including shade of color and brightness.
• Able to comfortably work on ladders, stepladders, stools, and other high reach equipment.
• Able to work in various temperature conditions and noise levels, in indoor and outdoor settings and exposed to fumes and/or hazard odors, dust and chemicals (PPE provided).
• Exert physical effort in lifting and transporting items up to 50 pounds.
• Able to push/pull carts and other equipment up to 250 pounds.
• The ability to bend, stretch, twist, or reach with your body, arms and/or legs.
