Job summary

Phoenix Global in Wilton, IA is seeking a Hot Pit Loader for a temporary role with potential to hire. You will operate loaders during slag pit digging, quenching, and maintenance activities, adhering to safety protocols, performing pre-shift inspections, and conducting a 360-degree walk-around to ensure readiness.

Daily duties include coordinating with pot carriers to control dumping, supervising de-skulling, loading slag, monitoring water intrusion, and stopping work if moisture is detected,

Qualifications

• Soft skills: teamwork, communication, time management, problem solving.
• High school diploma or GED or equivalent.
• Valid driver's license required.
• Willingness to work in a steel mill; vocational training preferred.

Responsibilities

• Safely operate loaders during slag pit digging, quenching, and maintenance.
• Perform pre-shift inspections and 360-degree walk-around checks on the loader.
• Inspect pits for grading, dryness, and berms; maintain safety equipment.
• Coordinate with pot carriers, control dumping, oversee de-skulling, and manage quenching pits.
• Apply correct slag amounts when padding pots and load haul trucks safely.
