Job description

JOB SUMMARY:

Responsible for placing all orders with the kitchen and ensuring that special instructions are followed. Serves all meals to the guests in a professional manner. Completes tableside food preparation as needed to ensure efficient and timely service. Responsible for preparing and presenting the guest check as well.

SCOPE:

Provides assistance to the Captain in all phases of the meal presentation and service. Serves as a liaison between the kitchen and the Captain, ensuring that all instructions and requests of the kitchen are fulfilled.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND AUTHORITIES:

  • Ensures that all appropriate condiments and additional spices are available to guests with their meal.


  • Ensures that all meals are retrieved from the kitchen in a timely manner.


  • Provides general assistance to the Captain with meal presentation.


  • Prepares all tables in their assigned station for guest seating.


  • Is at all times appropriately groomed and wears the uniform provided.


  • Follows all applicable safety procedures.


  • Treats guests with courtesy and respect.


NON-PHYSICAL QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must possess basic reading skills.


  • Must possess basic writing skills.


  • At least 2 years gourmet restaurant experience.


  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.


  • Knowledge in tableside food preparation preferred.


PHYSICAL QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Ability to lift and carry approximately 25 - 30 pounds.


  • Ability to move throughout their assigned station during their shift.


PRIMARY DUTIES:

  • Set all tables with glass, china, flatware and center pieces for dining.


  • Take food order from the Captain to the kitchen.


  • Open and close food check.


  • Enter all orders into the computer system.


  • Retrieve completed orders from the kitchen.


  • Serve meals to guests after approved by the Captain and any table preparation has been completed.


  • Complete side work which includes assembling bread baskets, filling and maintaining salt, pepper and sugar containers, returning all menus to designated locations and maintaining proper inventory of various condiments.


  • Present food and beverage check to the guest upon completion of the meal.


OTHER DUTIES:

  • Assist Bus people clear dishes during meal as time permits.


  • Fulfill various guest requests during the meal, such as wine, water, coffee, tea or other beverages to be replenished.


  • Assist the Captain in tableside food preparation as needed.


  • Additional related duties as requested by the Captain and or maître d'.
