We are a local restaurant group based in Reston, Va, called Thompson Hospitality. We own, operate, and lose constant sleep over several local restaurant brands, including matchbox, Big Buns Damn Good Burgers, and The Rub Chicken + Beer. Our business was founded twenty-eight years ago on the belief that a successful hospitality business can be built by empowering our fellow team members to do whatever it takes to make our guests happy. We just happen to make GREAT food and drinks too! Our recipe for success is pretty simple: it all comes down to people and process. We are looking for Front-of-House team members to make our dining room, bar, and communal coffee tables feel like a welcoming party. We are also seeking Back-of-House team members to prepare crave-worthy food that never compromises quality.

General Description:

Practice strong telephone and guest service etiquette. Accurately record reservations and information into OpenTable. Warmly greet and seat guests in a professional manner, following all SOPs and standards. Create memorable first impressions with guests.

Job Responsibilities:

These may change over the course of employment.

  • Answer incoming telephone calls promptly and professionally, according to company standards. Record and distribute messages accurately.
  • Record reservations accurately into OpenTable, capturing special requests and concerns as necessary.
  • Manage reservations to effectively seat the entire dining room, running efficient waits and calling ahead diners according to company SOPs and standards.
  • Practice complete guest service, using a warm greeting and welcoming guests with a smile.
  • Appear, dress, and act professionally.
  • Possess knowledge of food and beverages served, as well as promotions and special events.
  • Understand the mechanics of service and can arrange tables for large parties. Able to set tables according to company guidelines.
  • Maintain the dining room, entrance (interior and exterior), host stand, and restaurant throughout the shift.
  • Perform additional responsibilities as requested by a manager at any time.
  • Interact verbally and listen attentively to guests, co-workers, and managers.
Job Requirements:
  • Must be able to speak clearly and understand basic English to facilitate communication.
  • Ability to learn menu items and service procedures.
  • Ability to take direction and work in a team environment.
  • Ability to work calmly and effectively under pressure.
  • Ability to learn and follow processes.
  • This position will spend 100% of the time standing and walking.
