Job summary

Big Cedar Lodge is seeking an entry level Compliance Officer to conduct regular assessments and audits of life-safety systems and ADA compliance across resort properties. The role monitors daily operations, enforces policy adherence, and supports ethics and integrity standards to protect guests and associates.

The position requires basic risk assessment ability, strong communication skills, and collaboration with leadership to resolve noncompliance and maintain records for five years.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; college degree preferred.
  • 2 years of hospitality experience recommended.
  • Proficiency in MS Office (Outlook, Word, Excel) and ability to learn safety software.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with life-safety and ADA policy enforcement.
  • Conduct regular life-safety and ADA audits and inspections.
  • Prepare and maintain annual inspection plans and documentation.
  • Review records to assess compliance with regulations.
  • Identify noncompliance and implement corrective action plans.
  • Coordinate with leadership and risk management on resource needs.
  • Serve as liaison to the Emergency Management Director for safety needs.
  • Oversee NFPA compliance matters and respond to regulatory concerns.
  • Conduct lodging inspections with local/state inspectors.
  • Maintain audit/inspection records for 5 years.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Job description

This is an entry level position.

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Compliance Officer is responsible for conducting regular assessments and audits of all buildings belonging to Bass Pro Shops Hospitality. They will monitor and assess the daily operations of cross-functional life-safety systems and ADA compliance to safeguard associates, guests, and company property from preventable harm or danger. They will ensure that all life-safety and ADA policies and objectives are being followed supporting the company mission, values, and standards of ethics and integrity.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
  • Ensure proper execution of assigned duties.
  • Maintain a professional appearance, demeanor, and reputation.
  • Knowledgeable of, adhering to, promoting, and enforcing all guest service policies and procedures established within the Big Cedar Lodge Service Standards.
  • Serve as an ambassador to the BPS Safety & Security Department, interacting with guests and providing genuine Ozark Hospitality in every interaction.
  • Create and maintain life-safety-systems and ADA annual inspection plans and requirements.
  • Perform Resort Compliance Audits to ensure the resort is complying with all life-safety-systems and ADA requirements. Ensure all systems are functioning properly.
  • Review previous records to determine the department’s compliance with current and past regulations.
  • Act in resolving noncompliance, creating, and executing realistic plans to overcome them.
  • Maintain direct and open communication with leadership, key stakeholders, and risk management team members to make sure all resources needed for projects are available.
  • Acts as a liaison and professional resource to the Emergency Management Director for overall compliance and life-safety-related needs.
  • Oversees all NFPA compliance matters and assists in responding to compliance concerns related to non-compliance, and other regulatory matters related to life safety and risk control.
  • Conducts formal lodging inspections with local and state inspectors.
  • Create and maintain a records platform for all audits and inspections conducted and maintain records for 5 years.
  • ALL OTHER DUTIES AS ASSIGNED
EXPERIENCE/QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Minimum Degree Required: High School Diploma or Equivalent
  • High School diploma required — college degree preferred.
  • 2 years of experience in hospitality preferred.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office: Outlook, Word, and Excel. Ability to learn and use HotSOS, Safety Culture, and google docs, etc.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Risk assessment skills.
  • Strong employee relations experience
  • Ability to follow instructions as directed and work with a sense of urgency.
  • Excellent teamwork skills
  • Must be initiative‑taking and able to work in a collaborative environment with an emphasis on total guest satisfaction.
  • Must possess strong critical thinking skills; be able to identify and resolve problems promptly, gather and analyze information objectively, use reasoning even when overseeing emotional situations.

  • Able to work flexible schedules/shifts as needed for a 7-day operation.

  • Must have the ability to effectively work with internal and external guests, some could require elevated levels of patience, tact, and diplomacy to defuse anger and resolve conflicts.

TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS:
  • Some Travel is required
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Computer Work

Regularly: Computer Work, Walking, Standing

Occasionally: Sitting, Lifting up to 50 lbs.

Additional Physical Requirements:
  • Ability to lift 50lbs safely, without assistance.
  • Ability to sit, stand, squat, lift, and or walk for the duration of the scheduled shift (up to 10 hours)
  • Ability to maneuver wilderness terrain without assistance.
  • Ability to work outdoors in extreme elements of weather.
  • Ability to understand, interpret and execute verbal and written instruction.
INDEPENDENT JUDGEMENT

Performs duties within scope of general company policies, procedures, and objectives. Analyzes problems and performs needs assessments. Uses judgment in adapting broad guidelines to achieve desired result. Regular exercise of independent judgment within accepted practices. Makes recommendations that affect policies, procedures, and practices.

COMPENSATION:

$16 – $18 per hour depending on experience
