Overview
As the Hospitalist Medical Director for CommonSpirit Medical Group, you will oversee the Colorado Springs hospital medicine system. This position is based in Colorado Springs, CO, and is a 1.0 FTE role (comprising 0.6 FTE administrative and 0.4 FTE clinical).
Responsibilities
- Provide leadership and management of the regional team, including physicians, APPs, and physician site leaders.
- Oversee regional operations, including recruiting and onboarding doctors and advanced practice providers, managing program finances, human resources, and scheduling processes.
- Focus on patient safety, patient experience, and quality measures across hospitals in the region.
- Serve as a liaison between hospital medicine leadership and local entities.
Patient Care/Outcomes
- Apply expertise in best practice guidelines to ensure excellent patient outcomes.
- Participate in initiatives and workgroups aimed at improving patient safety and experience.
- Review and analyze data to develop action plans for quality, safety, and patient experience improvements.
Human Resources
- Lead recruitment of physicians and APPs within the region.
- Collaborate with hospital medicine leadership at system and local levels for onboarding.
- Manage human resource interventions in partnership with site leads and HR teams.
- Review staffing models and needs at local facilities.
- Coordinate with scheduling teams and Site Leads to manage clinical schedules according to norms.
Finance and Operations
- Work with the Executive Medical Director and CMG finance team on financial goals.
- Review financial data and collaborate on optimizing efficiency and fiscal responsibility.
- Participate in workgroups focused on operational opportunities like LOS and readmissions.
Additional Leadership Responsibilities
- Lead quarterly operations meetings with hospital executive teams.
- Support and contribute to monthly hospital medicine team meetings.
- Analyze data to identify opportunities in patient safety, quality, and operational efficiency.
- Mentor and develop leadership for facility-based Site Leads and Hospitalists.
Qualifications

- Doctorate (MD or DO) in Medicine.
- Current and unrestricted medical license in Colorado.
- Subject matter expertise in clinical practice for the market.
- Proven performance in quality and efficiency of patient care and operations.
- Experience in talent recruitment, retention, and leadership development.
- Ability to lead and adapt in a changing environment.
- Experience with budgeting and Quality Assurance in a physician practice.
- Preferred: Affiliation with CommonSpirit for over one year.
