Job description

Hospitalist Opening - Caribou, Maine

Located in Northern Maine - near the Canadian border

Position Details:

  1. Full-time, permanent positions
  2. Weekdays/nights
  3. Do your own scheduling for the week; no weekend coverage needed
  4. Currently weekdays, Mon. - Friday, days/nights, with potential 7/7 schedule as the model changes
  5. Average daily census per physician is 12 - 15 patients
  6. Group has two full-time Hospitalists working days, one covering nights
  7. Weekend coverage includes a full-time Hospitalist from 6 a.m. Saturday to 6 a.m. Monday, and a night-time Hospitalist working 2 weeks on/2 weeks off, with occasional weekends
  8. BC/BE in Internal Medicine
  9. Some procedures required + ICU coverage; open ICU; some Hospitalists do central lines, vents, etc., but it's not mandatory
  10. Patient demographic: large cohort of elderly patients with co-morbidities; extensive engagement with local middle school, high school, junior college, and university athletic programs

Qualifications:

  • Board Certified or board eligible on a defined track to certification
  • American-born and trained physicians, as well as foreign-born physicians with US residency and/or fellowship, considered equally
  • In-practice physicians, residents, fellows, and military-trained physicians considered equally

Practice Characteristics:

  • Access to specialists including urology, general surgery, ophthalmology, neurology, and occupational medicine
  • Availability of outpatient clinics for cardiology, pulmonary, hematology/oncology, endocrinology, neurosurgery, ENT, pediatric cardiology, nephrology, gastroenterology, podiatry, and rheumatology
  • Expectations include growing the practice by providing high-quality inpatient and outpatient care, and effective communication with primary care physicians and specialists, coordinating patient transfers as needed

It is designated as a Federally Qualified Health Center, with grants supporting oral health expansion and quality performance. Recognized as a Patient-Centered Medical Home (PCMH), emphasizing coordinated, team-based care focused on patient engagement.
