Job Summary and Qualifications
As a work-from-home Inpatient Coding Specialist, you will review and evaluate hospital inpatient medical record documentation to assign, sequence, edit, and/or validate ICD-10-CM and ICD-10-PCS codes. You will perform coding and/or code/DRG validation across multiple entities.
What you will do in this role
- Assign, sequence, validate, and/or edit codes/DRGs and abstract data (e.g., physician, discharge disposition, query tracking) for inpatient records across multiple facilities using ICD-10-CM and ICD-10-PCS
- Prepare diagnosis and procedure descriptions with appropriate codes and POA status; assign 3-7 digit diagnosis codes and 7-digit procedure codes with date and surgeon when applicable
- Record admitting diagnosis and discharge disposition
- Complete coding portion of IRF-PAI where applicable
- Maintain or exceed established accuracy and productivity standards
- Use complete patient medical records for code/DRG assignment, validation, and editing
- Initiate, review, and/or edit physician queries in compliance with policy
- May periodically perform Coding Account Resolution Specialist III (CARS III) duties as needed
Qualifications
- Undergraduate degree in HIM/HIT preferred
- 2+ years of acute care hospital inpatient coding experience required
- RHIA, RHIT or CCS strongly preferred
- High School diploma or GED required
