At our Vetco Total Care Full Service Veterinary Hospitals, our veterinarian position is the most immersive role in the hospital. Essential Job Functions

Listed are the essential duties and responsibilities required of this position. The incumbent must be able to perform all the following duties with or without reasonable accommodation:

  • Provide excellent patient care through physical examinations, diagnosing and treating diseases, and providing preventive care based on patient signalment, lifestyle, and environment.
  • Develop a complete problem list, differential diagnoses, diagnostic plan, and appropriate treatments based on test results, leading to confirmed or suspected diagnoses.
  • Document all observations, findings, treatments, client interactions, and diagnoses concisely and thoroughly in the medical record.
  • Perform routine and complex surgical procedures including spays/neuters, abdominal explorations, and mass removals.
  • Perform routine and complex dental procedures including examinations, radiographs, extractions, and surgical procedures.
  • Develop treatment plans for patients in day hospitalization, transition to overnight care as needed, and communicate with referral hospitals for continuity of care.

Other Duties And Responsibilities

  • Participate in rounds at beginning and end of shifts.
  • Share knowledge with staff to improve care and communication.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Supervision and Leadership

In all activities, the Veterinarian will take direct supervision from the Hospital Medical Leader or Area Medical Director, uphold Petco Veterinary SOPs, and behave professionally and collegially.

Planning and Problem Solving

Possess excellent problem-solving skills for expeditious diagnosis of patient issues.

Qualifications

  • Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree or equivalent from an AVMA-accredited school.
  • Active licensure without contingencies in the state of employment or ability to obtain it.
  • Current DEA license and Controlled Substance License if applicable.
  • USDA Category I Accreditation or completion within two months of hire.
  • Comfort with anesthesia and routine surgeries.
  • Excellent communication skills, compassion, professionalism, and teamwork orientation.

Work Environment

Primarily in the Vetco Total Care hospital, involving physical activity, lifting up to 30 pounds, and client interaction.
