Job summary

Northwestern Medicine is seeking a Security Officer I for the second shift in a full-time role. The position requires protecting patients, staff, and visitors, patrolling facilities, and monitoring access control and alarms.

You will respond to incidents, coordinate with local authorities, and enforce hospital policies to maintain a safe environment. Qualifications include a high-school diploma or GED, valid driver’s license, IAHSS basic certification requirements, and BLS within 9 months.

Qualifications

• High-school diploma or GED required.
• Valid driver’s license required.
• IAHSS Basic exam within 90 days of hire; maintain certification.
• BLS (AHA) within 9 months of hire; complete Defensive Tactics in Healthcare within 6 months.
• Strong interpersonal and written communication skills; able to write reports.

Responsibilities

• Investigate and quell incidents to protect patients, visitors, and staff.
• Notify police, fire, and supervisory personnel as needed and prepare reports.
• Perform regular patrols of hospital grounds and buildings.
• Monitor access control, alarms, and video surveillance.
• Direct traffic for emergencies and helicopter transports; ensure security of restricted areas.
• Provide escorts to staff and handle patient transfers to appropriate areas.
• Respond to emergency codes and enforce hospital policies; maintain professional image.
