Job summary

Saint Joseph Hospital - Elgin is seeking an Activity Therapist to conduct a therapeutic recreation program within the hospital to support rehabilitation for patients with physical and mental health needs.

You will lead patients in activities such as games, social events, sports, or music to foster sociability, creative expression, and learning skills for recovery during hospitalization and after discharge in the community.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's or Master's Degree in Recreation Therapy or Art Therapist or Expressive Arts Therapy or related field.
• CTRS or RTR certification preferred.
• Minimum one year experience in Behavioral Healthcare, rehabilitative or SNF setting preferred.

Responsibilities

• Conducts a therapeutic recreation program within the hospital to facilitate rehabilitation of the physically and mentally disabled.
• Directs patient participation in activities such as games, social activities, sports or music to create an atmosphere of sociability and expression.
• Creates an environment that allows patients to explore their potential, cultivate morale and minimize distress of illness.
