The State of California is seeking a permanent, full-time Hospital Police Sergeant at Patton State Hospital. This role involves supervising police officers, conducting law enforcement duties, and ensuring adherence to safety and security policies in a secure psychiatric environment. Candidates must have the ability to lead, maintain composure in emergencies, and achieve legal compliance within the healthcare setting.

Patton State Hospital, Human Resources is accepting applications for at least one (1) Permanent, Full-time Hospital Police Sergeant in the Hospital Police Department. This position is under the direct supervision of the Hospital Police Lieutenant.
Duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to the following: regularly required to perform law enforcement duties in close proximity to the mentally ill; Plans, organizes, and directs the work and training of subordinate police officers; responsible for compliance with all applicable rules, regulations, policies, and procedures related to the Hospital Police services; ensures that subordinates follow policies and procedures relating to safety and security; supervise officers in the investigations of incidents, crimes and unusual activities; ensures that all officers are trained in assigned tasks consistent with the job specifications; monitors all overtime and the use of leave credits; review updates and publishes post orders and other information requisite to the duties of the Hospital Police Officers; writes annual and probationary performance appraisals; reviews all documentation written by subordinates; supervises shift changes, attends meetings, and functions as a member of security groups and management teams.
Successful incumbents must demonstrate strong leadership, organizational, and communication skills-both verbally and written.

Patton is a forensic psychiatric hospital and was established in 1890 and opened in 1893. DSH-Patton provides treatment to forensically and civilly committed patients within a secure treatment area. The hospital does not accept voluntary admissions.
