Job summary

MemorialCare Health System in Long Beach, CA, is seeking a Pharmacy Technician per diem to support the Pharmacy - Todd Cancer Center. Under the direct supervision of a pharmacist, the technician processes new orders, accesses the EHR, issues drug doses to nurses, fills unit dose cassettes and ADCs, and maintains drug inventories.

The role requires 1+ year of hospital pharmacy inpatient experience or completion of a recognized program, knowledge of medical/pharmacy terminology, and California

Qualifications

• 1+ year of experience as a hospital pharmacy inpatient technician or completion of a recognized pharmacy-technician training program.
• Knowledge of medical and pharmacy terminology, weights and measures, and pharmacy calculations.
• Ability to effectively communicate verbally with coworkers and health care workers.
• Current licensure as a pharmacy technician in the State of California.

Responsibilities

• Triages medication requests and fills new medication orders accurately and efficiently.
• Understands laws governing drug control (Schedules II-V).
• Uses computer and automation resources to provide medications accurately and timely; ensures correct billing.
• Fills patient medication cassettes, ADCs, or drug delivery bins; restocks ADC medications as needed.
• Delivers/exchanges cassettes or restock ADC medications as relevant to practice area.
• Orders and restocks inventory to maximize turnover and prevent stock-outs.
• Maintains correct storage conditions and documents temperature logs; checks for expired drugs.
• Extemporaneously prepares unit dose packages and uncomplicated IV admixtures following USP 797 standards.
