Job summary

UnityPoint Health is seeking a Pharmacy Technician to assist pharmacists in preparing and distributing sterile and non-sterile medications under supervision. The role emphasizes accurate medication records and adherence to Iowa Board of Pharmacy guidance.

The position requires being registered as a Pharmacy Technician or Pharmacist-Intern with the Iowa Board of Pharmacy and a current PTCB or equivalent certification. Hospital/healthcare setting experience is desirable.

Qualifications

• Must read, write and speak English fluently.
• Must have strong math skills, including basic algebra.

Responsibilities

• Prepares and distributes medication products to fulfill medication orders.
• Utilizes automation to assure safe and accurate distribution and secure storage of medications.
• Compounds sterile medications in an appropriate clean room environment per facility, state, and federal laws (USP 797/800).
• Demonstrates competency, precision, and accuracy in the preparation of compounded products.
• Compounds non-sterile medications per USP guidelines (795).
• Answers the telephone, identifying self and department professionally.
• Ensures appropriate medication inventory by restocking, rotating stock, removing expired meds, packaging, and ordering supplies.
• Performs data entry for patient billing.
• Maintains proper medication storage and a neat, secure department.
• Ensures compliance with HIPAA, DNV, OSHA and other regulations.
