Job summary

Mount Sinai Medical Center is seeking a dedicated Maintenance Mechanic to perform and oversee a wide range of building upkeep tasks across our hospital facilities in Miami-Dade. Responsibilities include installing and repairing ceilings, tiles, walls, floors, millwork, and door hardware, as well as minor plumbing and electrical work.

The role requires at least 2 years of maintenance experience, a valid Florida driver license, and knowledge of safety regulations (OSHA, EPA, DOT, NFPA).

Qualifications

• Requires 2+ years of maintenance mechanic experience including basic electrical and mechanical work.
• Possession of a valid Florida Driver License with no more than 4 points preferred.
• If working with hazardous substances, HAZWOPER certification must be obtained within 90 days of employment.
• Knowledge of safety tools and regulations (OSHA, EPA, DOT, NFPA) as well as hospital policies.

Responsibilities

• Installs and repairs ceiling grid, ceiling tile, ceramic tile, vinyl floor tile and wall finishes.
• Repairs doors, millwork, handrails, and hardware; minor plumbing and electrical tasks.
• Maintains and inspects fire hoses and extinguishers; supports Life Safety inspections.
• Performs general maintenance tasks and assists in drills and codes as required.
• Estimates and orders materials for maintenance tasks across the medical center.

Repairs door hardware. • Minor repairs to millwork. • Repairs to millwork hardware. • Installs and repairs handrail and bumper guards. • Hangs items such as: shelves, brackets, dispensers, pictures, etc. • Replaces items such as: toilet paper holders, soap dispensers, electrical covers, etc. • Replaces light bulbs in all type of fixtures. • Minor plumbing: auguring toilet and sink traps, fixing flush valves, minor leaks, tightening packing on valve stems, etc. • Performs fire patching of all sorts. • Rebuilds sections of wall of all types. • Maintains and operates all hurricane shutters. • Maintains windows and hardware. • Maintains TV's and the controls. • Maintains all beds and stretchers. • Performs miscellaneous repairs to any equipment and furniture. • Maintains and inspects all fire hoses and fire extinguishers. • Maintains and inspects all issues related to \"Life Safety\". • Helps other trades as needed. • Assists in all drills and codes.Establishes and maintains effective interpersonal relationships with other hospital staff and patients.Is knowledgeable of all tools required for the trade: tape measure, knife, saws, trowels, caulk guns, brushes, miter box, staple gun, hand tools, toilet and sink augur, drills, etc…Demonstrates the skills to conduct \"Life Safety\" inspection.Perform Painting duties: • Apply paints, varnish, and/or stains to all types of surfaces (e.g. wood, metal, plaster, etc.) • In order to protect and beautify such surfaces using appropriate utensils and equipment such as paint spraying machines. • Prepare surfaces for painting using appropriate tools, equipment, and techniques. • Select the types and colors of paints, varnish or stain and mixes, blends and prepares the same for proper color match. • Prepare surfaces for plaster or cement work by taping joints on sheetrock, caulking and waterproofing walls and cracks in floors, etc. by using appropriate tools and equipment. • Performs related duties such as removing and replacing glass; drilling holes in signs; printing letters and signs; and moving office furniture. • Based on assignment, may operate road-line painting machines and sand blasting equipment.Is knowledgeable of all safety tools, rules and regulations involved in the trade - OSHA, EPA, DOT, ANSI, NFPA along with all hospital policies and procedures.Performs work in extreme conditions for short periods of time.Estimates and orders materials and supplies for any general maintenance job throughout the medical center.Is able to take a lead role in working with others.
