Responsibilities

• Clean floors, walls, and surfaces; strip and wax floors; wash with safety equipment as needed.
• Maintain records and provide simple oral/written reports on work.
• May lead a small team of Housekeeping Porters and supervise routine tasks.
• Perform cleaning in sterile/aseptic areas such as Delivery, Nursery, Isolation, Operating Rooms.
• Specialized cleaning tasks like shampooing carpets and upholstery.
• Wash windows, walls, and ceilings using appropriate equipment up to 12 feet.

Summary

Under general direction, performs the more skilled maintenance and janitorial work; has routine cleaning responsibilities for specific areas of hospital wards, clinics, hallways, offices supply rooms, and other facilities. Performs related duties as required.

DUTIES & ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

• Cleans floors and walls. Thoroughly strips accumulated wax from floors, using solvents if necessary. Bleaches cement floors by preparing and applying bleaching solution. Uses power buffer and rinses and dries floors; machine-scrubs and waxes floors.
• Keeps records of work accomplished; gives simple oral/written reports.
• May exercise lead responsibility over Housekeeping workers or over other Hospital Maintenance Porters in Housekeeping and use power tools in skilled building maintenance and fabrication work.
• Performs routine and more complex cleaning duties in areas which follow sterile or aseptic procedure and technique; Delivery, Nursery, Isolation and Operating Rooms and ice machines on wards.
• Performs specialized cleaning tasks of shampooing rugs, carpets, and upholstery.
• Supervises a small crew of Housekeeping Workers in putting up bedside curtains, shades and other furnishings in preparing a ward or other quarters for occupancy.
• Washes windows, walls and ceiling using safety-belts, platforms, ladders up to 12 feet, and pressurized wall-washing machines as necessary.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Minimum Experience: One year of experience in the class of Housekeeping Worker or two years of recent, paid experience in a janitorial class comparable to that of a Housekeeping Worker or some acceptable combination of education and appropriate experience.

Required Licenses/Certifications: CPI -Crisis Prevention Intervention Training (required for all positions at John George Psychiatric Pavilion and certain positions in the Emergency Department).

PAY RANGE: $30.62–$37.33 / per hour
The pay range for this position reflects the base pay scale for the role at Alameda Health System. Final compensation will be determined based on several factors, including but not limited to a candidate’s experience, education, skills, licenses and certifications, departmental equity, applicable collective bargaining agreements, and the operational needs of the organization.
