Job summary

Yale New Haven Health (YNHHS) is seeking a Fire/Life Safety Coordinator to help maintain life safety systems across the hospital campus, ensuring compliance with NFPA, Joint Commission, and state regulations. The role requires onsite, full-time work and collaboration with Environmental of Care and Safety Committees.

Education includes an associate degree in Fire and Occupational Safety with relevant hospital experience.

Qualifications

• Associates degree in Fire and Occupational Safety preferred.
• Five years of hospital facilities safety experience.
• Ability to read and interpret technical code publications and construction documents.

Responsibilities

• Conduct hazard surveillance inspections across hospital spaces per NFPA/Joint Commission/Local Codes.
• Prepare written inspection reports and circulate to management for corrective action.
• Provide bi-monthly KPI reporting for Safety Management and quarterly Life Safety programs.
• Represent YNHH on the Emergency Management Safety and Security Committee as Fire sub-committee.
• Coordinate Inspection, Testing and Maintaining (ITM) of fire suppression, alarms and extinguishers per standards.
• Respond to Fire Alarm notifications during business hours and document actions.
• Oversee annual NFPA, IRI and UL discharge tests of fire pumps and related documentation.
• Supervise monthly/annual inspections of extinguishers and train staff.
