Job summary

The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs is seeking a cook to prepare nutritious meals at the Nutrition and Food Service within the Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Iron Mountain, MI.

You will follow menus, production sheets and recipes, grill, broil, bake and assemble meals while maintaining food safety and sanitation standards. The role involves standing for long periods, lifting up to 40 pounds, and working a rotating schedule including weekends and holidays in a hot, noisy kitchen

Qualifications

• Demonstrated training or experience showing ability to perform duties.
• Evidence of knowledge, skills and ability with detailed resume descriptions.
• Experience evaluated using federal standards.

Responsibilities

• Prepares and cooks meals with minimal processing according to menus and recipes.
• Operates a variety of kitchen equipment and follows safety procedures.
• Cleans, sanitizes, and maintains work areas and equipment.
• Portions foods for distribution and serves meals to Veterans.
• Rotating shifts: 11:00 am–7:30 pm, including weekends/holidays.
