You will manage billing requirements for a diverse payor mix, handle authorization checks, denials follow-up, and communicate with patients and insurers to ensure accurate billing.

The ideal candidate is detail-oriented with strong verbal and written communication skills; bilingual ability and hospital billing experience are highly valued.

Qualifications

• One year of financial, statistical, or fiscal record keeping with billing; medical billing preferred.
• Two years clerical experience including arithmetic and billing work; medical billing preferred.
• 18 semester or 27 quarter units from college in secretarial sciences, business education, or related field.
• 369 hours of training from a recognized program in secretarial science or related field.

Responsibilities

• Verify medical insurance coverage; access files to obtain or update data.
• Prepare billing information to third-party intermediaries for services; input data into computer system.
• Type data from forms or documents into computer terminal; ensure accuracy of billing information.
• Review patient forms for completeness and accuracy per government and private payors.
• Contact insurance carriers to obtain authorization and verify eligibility and coverage.
• Respond to patient inquiries about account status and billing procedures.
• Check and correct accounts for arithmetical errors and proper coding.
