Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required; an Associate's or Bachelor's degree is preferred.
• Minimum 1–3 years of medical billing experience, preferably in a hospital setting.
• Knowledge of ICD-10, CPT, and HCPCS coding systems; familiarity with EHR and billing software.

Responsibilities

• Prepare and submit accurate insurance claims (electronic and paper) for hospital services
• Verify patient insurance eligibility and benefits prior to billing
• Review medical records and coding to ensure compliance with billing regulations
• Follow up on unpaid, denied, or rejected claims and take corrective action
• Communicate with insurance companies to resolve claim discrepancies
• Post insurance payments and adjustments to patient accounts
• Work closely with coding and clinical staff to ensure proper documentation
• Appeal denied claims when appropriate
• Maintain up-to-date knowledge of insurance policies, billing guidelines, and regulations
