Responsibilities

• Vacuums, sweeps, mops, buffs offices, corridors, stairs, stairwells, walls, furniture and equipment.
• Uses extension pole, ladder and scaffolds while cleaning walls, ceilings, washing light fixtures, changing drapes, changing cubicle curtains, or other activities.
• Shampoos and changes rugs when necessary.
• Cleans patient rooms with a high degree of cleanliness to minimize infection spread.
• Collects and transports linens to laundry; returns linens to assigned areas.
• Gathers and disposes refuse as directed.
• Cleans public and patient bathrooms, scouring sinks, wet mopping floors, disinfecting toilet bowls, wiping surfaces and replenishing supplies.
• Moves furniture and equipment in cleanup tasks.
• Maintains supply rooms for housekeeping throughout the facility.
• Uses a variety of manual and mechanical equipment.
• Performs housekeeping in specialized areas such as trauma, ICU, cardiac care and ER with sterile conditions.
• Cleans and maintains areas containing scientific apparatus, laboratory supplies and animals.
• Cleans isolated rooms and bags and disposes of contaminated equipment.

HOURLY RANGE: $18.44 - $23.78
DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS: The work involves performing a variety of maintenance and cleaning duties at the Erie County Medical Center Corporation. The incumbent performs a wide variety of cleaning, maintenance and sanitary duties in an assigned unit or area of the hospital. Work is performed under the direct supervision of a higher-ranking supervisory employee of the hospital. Does related work as required.

FULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS

Working knowledge of the properties of various cleaning substances, ability to understand and follow verbal and simple written instructions; ability to stand, stoop, bend and stretch for long periods of time; thoroughness; dependability; physically capable of performing the essential functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodation.
