Job summary

Sheridan Memorial Hospital is seeking a diligent Environmental Services Aide to clean all hospital areas and maintain a sanitary environment. The role supports patient care areas, offices, and common spaces through routine cleaning and supply replenishment.

Responsibilities include floor care, infection control, and assisting visitors. Candidates should be able to work day, evening, or night shifts, and demonstrate reliability, attention to safety, and teamwork in a hospital setting.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED or equivalent experience.
• NVCI Training is preferred but not required.

Responsibilities

• Cleans all areas of the hospital in a professional, sanitary manner.
• Restocks supplies and maintains clean, organized work areas.
• Assists visitors with directions and information as needed.
• Cleans and maintains floors, including carpet, tile, brick and concrete.
• Follows infection control practices and uses PPE as required.
• Transports trash and hazardous waste to disposal areas.
• Assists in safety and quality improvement initiatives.
• Works day, evening or night shifts as assigned.
• Maintains high standards of personal and professional conduct.

Job Summary

Cleans all areas of the Hospital by performing the following duties.

Essential Duties/Responsibilities

• Performs all assigned tasks in a professional manner in order to reflect the highest integrity of the Support Services Department.
• Performs routine cleaning of patient rooms, nursing units, offices, clinical areas, waiting areas, lobbies, lounges, rest rooms, corridors, elevators and stairways in a clean, neat and sanitary manner.
• Insures assigned areas are adequately stocked with cleaning supplies, paper products, and other essential items required to keep all areas functioning.
• Performs cleaning and maintenance of all floors: carpet, tile, brick and concrete flooring.
• Completes work assignments in a timely manner/prioritizing work assignments.
• Utilizes the appropriate chemicals, supplies and cleaning techniques according to procedure and manufacturers’ recommendation.
• Assists visitors with directions whenever requested.
• Is trained/cross trained in all areas of the facility to ensure ability to meet workload requirements when staffing shortages and/or vacations reduce staff levels.
• Always introduces self to patients, families and visitors.
• Reports safety hazards as appropriate.
• Transports trash and hazardous waste to appropriate disposal area.
• Replenishes supplies; notifies Manager when supplies need to be ordered.
• Follows all infection control practices including hand washing techniques, standard precautions and isolation precautions.
• Participates in performance improvement activities.
• Maintains set quality standards when performing job duties.
• Works day, evening or night shift as assigned.
• Ability to do work on his/her own with normal supervision.
• Observes safety precautions at all times.

Minimum Requirements

• Education / Experience / License and Certifications
  • High school diploma or general equivalency diploma (GED); or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • NVCI Training, preferred.
• Additional Skills
  • Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence and memos.
  • Ability to write simple correspondence.
  • Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients and other employees of the organization.
  • Additional languages preferred.
  • Basic computer knowledge.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions.
  • Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
  • Ability to read and understand equipment manuals.

Specific demands not listed: Possible exposure to blood and or body fluids / infectious disease / hazardous waste requiring the use of Personal Protective Equipment. Exposure to odorous chemicals / specimens and Latex products.
