Job summary

RWJBarnabas Health is seeking a Food Service Worker to support the daily operations of the kitchen, tray line, and dish room at the Main Hospital in New Brunswick. The role emphasizes safe food handling, timely meal delivery, and high-quality patient service in a fast-paced setting.

The position requires flexibility for a per diem schedule with a day shift and weekend availability. Prior food service experience is preferred but not required; dependability, teamwork, and strong customer service

Qualifications

• Experience in customer service in a healthcare or food service setting preferred.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and support patient care missions.
• Attention to food safety and sanitation standards.

Responsibilities

• Serve on the tray assembly line in assigned positions involving starters, servers, soups, desserts, and hot beverages.
• Wash pots and pans and perform heavy cleaning duties as directed.
• Assist in the care and maintenance of work areas, equipment, and supplies.
• Clean and sanitize work areas and equipment; perform general routine cleaning duties and non-round duties as assigned.
• Collect, process, and properly dispose of trash, recyclables, and waste.
• Deliver and pick up patient meal trays according to department policy.
• Maintain established food preparation policies, procedures, standards, and quality expectations.
• Prepare, load, transport, and strip food trucks; scrape plates and pre-soak silverware.
• Communicate patient questions or concerns to the Diet Office and notify nursing staff when assistance is needed.
