Job summary

Community Health Systems is seeking an Environmental Service Worker I to maintain a clean, safe, and welcoming environment in patient areas. The role involves cleaning, floor care, waste management, and adherence to infection control protocols to support patient comfort and safety.

You will sanitize rooms and common spaces, manage supplies, and operate cleaning equipment while maintaining compliance with safety and HIPAA requirements.

Qualifications

• 1-2 years of cleaning or environmental service experience preferred.
• Knowledge of cleaning techniques, equipment, and products.
• Understanding of infection control and safety standards.
• Ability to operate cleaning equipment effectively and safely.
• Strong attention to detail and time management skills.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to interact with staff, patients, and visitors.
• Physical ability to perform repetitive tasks and lift or move objects as needed.

Responsibilities

• Cleans and sanitizes assigned areas per infection control standards.
• Sweeps, mops, vacuums, and dusts floors and surfaces.
• Maintains floors and upholstery through routine upkeep.
• Washes walls, windows, and other surfaces to maintain cleanliness.
• Restocks supplies and monitors inventory.
• Handles waste and biohazard materials safely per HIPAA protocols.
• Operates and maintains cleaning equipment and reports malfunctions.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
