Job summary

Hackensack Meridian Health is seeking a Telephone Operator to support hospital communications and direct callers to the right departments. You will answer calls, use the paging system, provide information about patient locations and visiting hours, and respond promptly to emergencies.

The role requires strong communication skills and solid computer proficiency. You will work in a fast-paced hospital environment with a focus on accuracy, courtesy, and efficient information delivery.

Qualifications

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Proficient computer skills that include but are not limited to Microsoft Office and/or Google Suite platforms.

Responsibilities

• Answers hospital incoming calls. Calls are answered promptly and routed to appropriate departments.
• Contacts hospital personnel via paging system as requested and uses paging system accurately.
• Demonstrates knowledge of on-call scheduling and communicates procedures to staff.
• Maintains accurate records and logs to support productivity.
• Provides information on patient location, visiting hours and hospital policies to callers.
• Operates a data-linked PBX console and completes calls courteously and efficiently.
• Delivers directory information via internal and external caller systems.
• Responds quickly to emergencies and alarms, within 2–5 minutes of notification.
