Job summary

Saint Joseph’s Hospital and Medical Center in Phoenix, AZ is seeking a Chaplain to provide spiritual counseling and existential care to patients, families, and staff, integrated with the healthcare team.

You will offer compassionate presence, conduct rituals, document interventions, advocate for patient values, and participate in rounds, education, and holistic care in a dynamic hospital environment.

Qualifications

• Masters degree in Theology, Pastoral Care/Counseling or recognized by applicant’s faith group
• Clinical Pastoral Education: 4 units of CPE (1600 hours) in an accredited ACPE hospital center
• Board Certified Chaplain APC, within 24 months of hire

Responsibilities

• Provides pastoral care to patients and families in a timely manner and serves as a professional spiritual care resource
• Maintains accurate documentation in patient charts regarding spiritual care interventions, plans, and outcomes
• Advocates for patient rights in regard to spiritual, cultural, and psychosocial values and how they impact a patient and their support system response to their care
• Supports an interdisciplinary approach to pastoral care by participating in team meetings and rounds
• Provides education to patients and families about spiritual resources, advance directives, organ and tissue donation, ethics, and other spiritual issues that may arise
