Job summary

Advocate Health is seeking a full-time cook for a customer-facing café environment. The role requires preparing and presenting a wide range of foods, ensuring quality, safety, and portion control based on recipes and production sheets.

The ideal candidate has a high school diploma, 3 years in food production, and ServSafe certification within a year. Hours are early and include every other weekend and rotating holidays, with comprehensive health and retirement benefits offered.

Qualifications

• High School Graduate (or equivalent knowledge).
• Typically requires 3 years of experience in food production in settings such as a hotel, restaurant or high end institutional environment.
• ServSafe Food Handler certification required within 1 year.

Responsibilities

• Reviews production sheets and recipes to ensure quality and quantity needed for items to prepare.
• Measures and mixes ingredients according to recipe using kitchen utensils and equipment.
• Bakes, roasts, broils and steams meat, fish, vegetables and other foods per recipes.
• Carves and slices meats and cheeses; garnishes, displays and serves food items according to standards.
• Ensures proper storage and rotation of inventories; monitors food temperatures and safe handling practices.
• Follows department standards for safe food handling, storage and sanitation; maintains temperature logs.
• Monitors accurate portioning and promotes food waste control; prepares small batches to control waste/cost.
• Demonstrates knowledge to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served; understands age-specific needs as per department policies.
