Summary

Utilizing electronic medical records and encoder software, assigns and sequences diagnosis and procedure codes for inpatient encounters based on documentation, following official guidelines, regulations, and policies.

Responsibilities
  1. Review inpatient coding work queues daily for edits and corrections.
  2. Review medical records to assign diagnosis and procedure codes, including MS-DRGs and APR-DRGs.
  3. Formulate physician queries for validation and clarification.
  4. Attend educational meetings to maintain certification.
  5. Maintain patient confidentiality and adhere to standards.
  6. Meet coding quality and productivity standards, submitting daily reports.
  7. Review and validate ADT data fields.
Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or Equivalent.
  • Certified Coding Associate (CCA) from AHIMA.
  • Minimum 3 years inpatient coding experience or graduate of MHS coder intern program.
  • Proficient in computer skills, encoder, and electronic medical records.
  • Certifications: RHIT, RHIA, or CCS preferred.
Working Conditions

Primarily office work, with physical requirements including keyboarding, sitting, standing, and reaching.
