Executive Director Responsibilities

As an Executive Director, you will report directly to our Assistant Vice President of Operations. You will be responsible for the day-to-day operations of your assigned hospice location, overseeing patient admissions, ancillary services, supervision and evaluation of staff and volunteers, and ongoing communication with leadership.

Key Job Responsibilities

  • Demonstrates a commitment to excellence through focusing on quality care and/or service.
  • Implements continuous quality improvement principles.
  • Ensures compliance with accrediting, licensing, regulatory requirements, and laws.
  • Recommends and implements policies and procedures.
  • Manages Human Resources effectively.
  • Promotes positive communication and keeps staff informed of changes.
  • Provides orientation, training, and continuing education for staff and volunteers.
  • Supervises and evaluates interdisciplinary team members.
  • Sets performance goals, monitors progress, and redirects efforts as needed.
  • Assigns tasks fairly based on abilities and workload.
  • Manages office operations efficiently.
  • Plans and organizes resources to meet strategic goals.
  • Ensures accurate and timely documentation of services.
  • Monitors quality of patient care and manages emergency responses.
  • May perform routine patient visits or participate in on-call schedules (if RN).
  • Collaborates with physicians, patients, families, and staff to address concerns.
  • Supervises and evaluates patient satisfaction surveys.
  • Manages financial resources within budget, reviews expenses, and prepares financial reports.

About You

  • Education:
  • Registered Nurse with minimum of Associates Degree in Nursing required.
  • Bachelor's degree in Nursing (BSN) preferred.
  • Master's degree in business, nursing, or related field preferred.
  • Experience:
  • Minimum one year management/supervisory experience required.
  • Two or more years in hospice/home care required (if also functioning as Clinical Nursing Supervisor).
  • Three years direct patient care experience preferred.
  • Healthcare sales/management experience preferred.
  • Licenses, Certifications, and/or Registration:
  • Current nursing license in the state of employment.
  • CPR Certification.
  • Valid driver’s license and auto insurance.
