Job summary

Amedisys is seeking a hospice physician to provide compassionate, comprehensive care to patients at the end of life. You will lead interdisciplinary team efforts, conduct assessments, and guide families through goals of care while maintaining high standards of medical documentation.

The role emphasizes collaboration with nurses, social workers, chaplains, and hospice aides to ensure comfort, dignity, and emotional support in a multidisciplinary setting.

Qualifications

• Medical degree (MD or DO) from an accredited medical school.
• Current and unencumbered license to practice in the assigned state.
• Membership in good standing on the medical staff of at least one contracted hospital.
• Current CPR certification.
• Valid driver's license and reliable transportation for home visits.

Responsibilities

• Conduct comprehensive, face-to-face assessments with patients. Manage symptoms and provide palliative care to alleviate pain and discomfort.
• Oversee patient admissions, discharges, certifications, recertifications and medication management.
• Lead goals of care discussions with patients and families.
• Educate patients and families about hospice philosophy, treatment options, and end-of-life care.
• Maintain accurate medical records and ensure regulatory compliance.
• Provide on-call coverage for medical emergencies.
• Coordinate care with other healthcare providers for seamless transitions and continuity of care.
