Job summary

Peoples Health Services is seeking a Music Therapist to deliver compassionate, individualized music therapy to hospice patients and families in home and facility settings.

You will assess needs, develop treatment plans, and collaborate with the interdisciplinary team to integrate music therapy into care. Travel to patient homes and facilities is required, with bereavement support and staff education opportunities.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or master’s degree in music therapy from an AMTA-approved program.
• Certification as a Music Therapist (MT-BC) required.
• Current CPR certification.
• Current driver’s license with reliable transportation and proof of auto insurance.
• Previous hospice, palliative care, or healthcare experience preferred.
• Strong musical skills (voice and instrument proficiency) and ability to adapt music to diverse patient needs.

Responsibilities

• Assess patients’ physical, emotional, cognitive, and spiritual needs and develop individualized music therapy treatment plans.
• Provide direct music therapy interventions in patients’ homes, facilities, or inpatient units.
• Use live and recorded music, singing, instrument play, and songwriting to promote relaxation, pain and symptom management, reminiscence, life review, and emotional expression.
• Support families and caregivers through therapeutic music experiences that encourage coping, comfort, and connection.
• Participate in interdisciplinary team meetings, providing input on patient progress and treatment goals.
• Document assessments, interventions, and outcomes in the electronic medical record in compliance with regulatory standards.
• Provide bereavement support as appropriate, including participation in memorial services or grief support groups.
• Educate staff, volunteers, and community partners about the benefits of music therapy in hospice care.
• Maintain professional boundaries, ethical standards, and confidentiality at all times.
