Job summary

AccentCare is seeking a Hospice Medical Director to provide medical leadership and oversight for hospice services in the San Bernardino, CA area. This part-time, hybrid role involves care planning, mentorship, and staff education while aligning with regulatory requirements.

You will collaborate with the interdisciplinary team, lead recruitment and development of hospice physicians, and serve as an ambassador to community physicians and hospitals.

Qualifications

  • Must hold MD or DO license in practicing state; experience with chronically or terminally ill patients.
  • Active DEA license.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Strong knowledge of hospice and palliative care, pain and symptom management.
  • Board certification in Hospice and Palliative Medicine preferred; 5+ years in a director/administrative role preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Provide medical leadership and oversight for hospice services to ensure high-quality, patient-centered care.
  • Support clinical excellence, hospice eligibility determinations, care planning, symptom management, and regulatory compliance.
  • Collaborate with the interdisciplinary team to promote quality outcomes and continuous improvement.
  • Lead and support hospice physicians through recruitment, development, mentorship, and performance management.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable regulatory, accreditation, and organizational requirements.
  • Build and maintain collaborative relationships with physicians, hospitals, long-term care providers, and other referral partners.
  • Participate in professional, educational, and community activities that further the organization's mission.
  • Provide direct patient care and clinical consultation as needed.
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned in support of organizational objectives.

Location: San Bernardino, CA

Position: Part-time, Hybrid

Salary: $12,500 - $15,000 annually

Schedule: 2-3 hours/wk

What You Need To Know AccentCare is seeking a skilled and compassionate Hospice Medical Director ready to promote excellence in patient care through active participation in care planning, quality improvement, physician mentorship, and staff education. In addition to internal clinical leadership, the Hospice Medical Director serves as a key ambassador for the hospice program by building relationships with community physicians, hospitals, long-term care facilities, and healthcare organizations. Through education, consultation, and advocacy for hospice and palliative care, the Medical Director advances the organization's mission of providing comfort, dignity, and expert care to patients and families facing life-limiting illness.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide medical leadership and oversight for hospice services to ensure high-quality, patient-centered care.
  • Support clinical excellence, hospice eligibility determinations, care planning, symptom management, and regulatory compliance.

If you meet these qualifications, we would love to meet you:

  • Must be a licensed Medical Doctor (M.D.) or Doctor of Osteopathy (D.O.) in the state(s) of practice, with training or experience in caring for chronically or terminally ill patients
  • Maintains active DEA license
  • Valid driver's license
  • Strong understanding of primary medical care principles.
  • Working knowledge of hospice and palliative care, including pain and symptom management.
  • Familiarity with hospice regulations and Medicare requirements.
  • Strong clinical judgment and decision‑making skills.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with Attending Physicians and interdisciplinary teams.
  • Excellent communication skills for interaction with patients, families, and providers.
  • Ability to manage complex clinical and ethical situations in end‑of‑life care.
  • Experience with oversight of clinical programs
  • (Preferred) Board certification in Hospice and Palliative Medicine
  • (Preferred) Ten or more years of clinical experience
  • (Preferred) Five or more years in a medical director or other administrator role
