Hospice & Palliative Care Charlotte seeks a Medical Billing Specialist for the South Charlotte Office in Charlotte, NC. This full-time role handles claims processing, coding, and payer communications to ensure accurate billing for Medicare, Medicaid, and third-party payers, while maintaining compliance with organizational policies.

The ideal candidate has an associate degree or equivalent, at least four years in healthcare billing or accounts receivable, and proficiency with Microsoft Office.

Qualifications

• Associate degree or equivalent in related technical discipline.
• Minimum of 4 years' experience in billing, insurance accounting and/or accounts receivable in a healthcare facility.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.

Responsibilities

• Process and review claims; make corrections to patient records per policy.
• Enter physician and NP visits and charges into the billing system.
• Ensure all miscellaneous charges are captured on claims (e.g., consulting physician charges).
• Review claims for accuracy; coordinate with other departments to resolve issues before submission.
• Generate UB-04 and HCFA 1500 forms and submit to Medicare, Medicaid, and third-party payers.
• Enter claims in online systems or mail claims as necessary.
• Communicate with Medicare, Medicaid and third-party payers regarding status and denials.
• Assist with monthly billing, cash reconciliation, and revenue reporting.
• Verify Medicare & Medicaid eligibility as needed; assist with commercial authorizations.
• Respond to inquiries from patients, physicians, and insurers about reimbursement.
• Accounts Receivable review; follow up on aging and outstanding claims.
• Coordinate with financial and clinical teams to resolve issues.
• Review aging reports and submit secondary claims as needed.
• Prepare write-offs for submission after collection efforts are exhausted.
• May perform other duties as required.
