Job summary

City of Bentonville, AR seeks a Parks Maintenance Supervisor to coordinate daily park grounds work and lead the crew in maintaining City grounds, parks, and recreation areas.

You will supervise staff, coordinate with Parks Foreman, and assist with capital projects, budgeting, and safety enforcement. The role requires working in diverse weather conditions and sometimes outside normal hours.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED with 7+ years of related experience or equivalent.
• Ability to supervise Parks Maintenance Workers and seasonal staff.
• Valid driver's license; CDL may be required.

SUMMARY

As set forth by the Parks Maintenance Manager, coordinates and performs the daily activities of parks maintenance workers engaged in the maintenance of City grounds, parks, and recreational areas by performing the following duties. Acts as the \"lead\" for their crew and is responsible for the crew's daily activities, work performance and equipment upkeep and maintenance.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Reporting relationships, work assignments, work schedules may be subject to change in order to meet City needs or operational requirements. Attendance at work and the ability to get along with the public, supervisors, and co-workers are essential elements of this position. Other duties may be assigned.

Responsible for supervising full, temporary and/or seasonal employees.

Responsible for working with Parks Foreman and department Crew Leaders to oversee operations during inclement weather event. This position is considered an essential services position that requires work to be performed during extreme weather and in natural disaster events.

Works with Parks Foreman, Parks Maintenance Manager, Parks and Recreation Director to assist with determining the need for park improvements, capital projects and necessary budget items.

Design, implement and maintain public gardens in public parks throughout the park system.

Source plant material and assist with yearly budgeting process.

Landscape Beds (Existing) check, repair, weed, replant, remove, till, mulch, prune, water, fertilize, leaf removal.

Invasive species management

Trees (New) plant, water, mulch, fertilize.

Trees (Existing) water, mulch, fertilize, remove, prune.

Removes dead or damaged trees or tree limbs.

Greenhouse Plant Propagation and maintenance.

Assists with community volunteer projects, program administration, coordination, and implementation.

Serves on local committees.

Cleans grounds and removes litter.

Keeps park facilities free of debris or graffiti.

Keeps storm drains and culverts free of debris.

Maintains fall surface under play structures.

Shovels snow from walks, biking trails and spreads ice-melt on public passage ways to prevent ice buildup.

Confers with the Parks Maintenance Manager to help coordinate the support of activities of other City Departments.

Interprets company policies to workers. Acts as the \"On Site\" supervisor for enforcing safety regulations.

Assist with special projects performed by the Parks and Recreation Department including, but not limited to, construction projects, special events or programming and holiday lights display.

Regularly attends trainings and professional development opportunities, sometimes out of state, and stays informed on best management practices

Performs activities of workers supervised.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

Occasionally supervises Parks Maintenance Workers and/or seasonal temporary workers. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include training employees, planning, assigning, and directing work, addressing complaints and resolving problems. Assists Parks Maintenance Supervisor with performance appraisals.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

High school diploma or general education degree (GED) and seven (7) years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out simple one- or two-step instructions. Ability to deal with standardized situations with only occasional or no variables.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

• Must have and maintain a valid driver’s license. Position may require a commercial driver’s license.
