Job summary

ArchKey Solutions is seeking a Horizontal Directional Drill Operator based in Fargo, ND, to install electrical and communications underground infrastructure across a regional area. You will operate HDD rigs and related equipment, review diagrams, and ensure safety standards.

The role requires 1–3 years of HDD experience, a valid driver's license with CDL-A preferred, and DOT medical card. Travel and overnight stays may occur; lifting up to 75 pounds is required.

Responsibilities

  • Operate HDD rig and related excavation equipment safely.
  • Review diagrams and plans to install products per standards.
  • Maintain equipment and document maintenance.
  • Coordinate with foremen and crews for safety.
  • Record bore depths and ensure proper clearances.
  • Attend toolbox safety meetings and follow directions.

About The Position

Responsible for operating large equipment and vehicles for installation of electrical and communications underground infrastructure throughout a specified regional area. This position safely utilizes tools and operates appropriate drilling equipment to enable high quality electrical project work, in alignment with all Company policies, procedures, key objectives and regulations.

Day in the Life
  • Understands detailed requirements of equipment installations by reviewing and interpreting diagrams, plans, specifications, and manuals. Seeks clarification of expected work results as needed. Accepts feedback for continuous improvement.
  • Accurately and safely operates and maintains horizontal directional drill rig (HDD), excavation equipment such as backhoe, trencher and hydro-vac, and other tools, equipment and vehicles as required.
  • Ensures proper clearances are in place to install products according to industry standards and Companypolicies andaccurately records the depth of the tool head as required.
  • Ensures drill head is in correct position at the exit pit to connect the product according to code.
  • Reports vehicle, tool, and equipment maintenance requirements asneeded,repairsdamaged,and deficient equipment as directed. Documents deficiencies in equipment and safety practices as appropriate, ensuring one call tickets are current as required.
  • Performs job site analyses (JSA) as requested and completes required paperwork. Walks and confirms bore paths according to requirements and regulations.
  • Conducts foreman responsibilities as needed, such as overseeing laborer and/or crew member work. Monitors work quality and productivity as required.
  • Attends and actively participates in weekly toolbox safety meetings.Followdirections without direct supervision.
  • Builds and maintains effective relationships with customers, foremen, project teams, specialty contractors, vendors, suppliers, user groups and others that reflect and support the Company’s core values and meet or exceed the customer’s expectations.
  • Consistentlymakedecisions in an attentive and safe manner to ensure the safety and health of self and others.
  • Utilizes LEAN concepts or other continuous improvement methodologies to ensure the most efficient operations, processes, and activities.
  • Promotes and models the Company mission, vision and values through exercising sound and ethical business practices, championing all elements of diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) and providing high quality services and programs as they relate to clients, subcontractors, co-workers, suppliers, and the public.
Minimum Qualifications
  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum 1-3 years of industry experience performing directional drill rig work in the field setting. Holds a valid driver’s license with a clean motor vehicle record. Class A commercial driver’s licenseis preferred.
  • Must be able to obtain a department of transportation (DOT) medical card.
  • Must be able to travel in a specified work region with occasional overnight stays expected.
  • Ability to lift a minimum of 75 pounds.
  • Ability to work as a team with a positive attitude and strong work ethic.
  • Open to learning new skills and willingly accepts feedback for continuous improvement.
  • Strong detail orientation and organizational skills.
  • Dedicated team player with strong customer service orientation.
