Title: Literacy Coach

Under general supervision of the principal, the Literacy Coach will utilize data to support staff in developing and improving learning opportunities for students. The Literacy Coach will collaborate with administrators and teachers to support the Georgia Early Literacy Act to develop a continuous improvement process that is a cohesive, sustainable, intensive, classroom-focused approach. The process must also be rigorous, engaging, and relevant for students. The Literacy Coach will prioritize, schedule, organize, and provide technical assistance so that students achieve grade level reading by the end of third grade.

This is a grant funded position; it is limited in time to the duration of the grant and contingent upon sufficient funding.

  • Facilitate structured coaching cycles with teachers, fostering a collaborative and growth-oriented environment that includes goal setting, modeling, lesson observation, constructive feedback, and reflective discussions to enhance literacy instruction and student outcomes.
  • Consult with teachers identified for additional support to create, implement, and monitor goals and plans for improving practice.
  • Meet regularly with school leadership and teachers to review all formative and summative data and make recommendations for adjustments in instructional practices.
  • Ensure the implementation of a systematic approach for documenting coaching services in designated schools. This will facilitate the alignment of schoolwide systems, processes, and resources to effectively structure literacy programs in accordance with the Georgia Early Literacy Act.
  • Assist leadership with providing regular and user-friendly data reports to their respective districts and other stakeholders.
  • Support educators in addressing grade-specific curriculum requirements by developing a comprehensive school-wide literacy plan and offering strategies for effectively monitoring its implementation.
  • Collaborate with other literacy coaches to design and conduct professional development to meet the varied needs of teacher.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Education or closely related area required.
  • Minimum five (5) years of elementary teaching experience is required.
  • Advanced preparation in reading/literacy through completion of reading endorsement preferred.
