Job summary

American University Honors & Scholars Programs is seeking a Social Media Assistant to grow and manage the program's Instagram presence and other student-facing digital storytelling efforts. The role is open only to AU Honors students, with strong writing and creative visuals required.

You will craft captions, source content from staff and students, and provide light event coverage while maintaining a monthly content calendar and brand consistency.

Qualifications

• Current American University undergraduate student in good academic standing; Must be enrolled in the AU Honors Program.
• Strong written communication skills and the ability to write clear, concise captions in a professional voice.
• Experience creating content for Instagram (feed, Stories, Reels) with basic analytics knowledge.
• Familiarity with Canva, Adobe Express, CapCut or similar design/editing tools.
• Excellent organization and time management; able to meet weekly/monthly deadlines while balancing studies.

Responsibilities

• Manage AU Honors Instagram with posts, Stories, Reels; develop a monthly content calendar; draft captions; select and edit photos or short videos; prepare posts for approval and scheduling; track basic analytics.
• Coordinate with staff, faculty, student leaders, and students to gather photos, announcements, and stories; ensure proper permissions, credits, tags, and accessible design.
• Provide light social media coverage for events; capture photos, short clips, quotes, or recap content for later posting.
