Job summary

Western Carolina University, located on campus in Cullowhee, NC, seeks an Academic Advisor for the Brinson Honors College. This exempt, on-site role supports student success from first enrollment through graduation, focusing on advising, program development, and collaboration with campus offices.

The advisor helps students select courses, majors, and careers, while contributing to policy updates and process improvements within Brinson Honors College. Travel for events is required.

Qualifications

• Master’s Degree in Education, Counseling, Psychology, Social Work, or related field
• Legally authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship
• Experience with Honors students is preferred

Responsibilities

• Serve as a first enrollment advisor for incoming Honors students
• Primary advisor for residential Honors students (0–45 hours)
• Secondary advisor for residential Honors students (46+ hours)
• Collaborate with Career Services for general career counseling
• Represent Brinson Honors College at recruitment events
• Teach USI 101 Honors Forum courses as assigned
• Liaise with assigned departments and program directors
• Travel with students to conferences and events (evenings/weekends)
