Job summary

Versant Media is seeking a highly organized Homepage & News Editor to lead CNBC’s journalism presentation on the homepage and related platforms. This role requires fast, smart editorial decisions to prioritize and present our biggest coverage with urgency and authority.

The ideal candidate has top-tier news judgment, sharp editing and headline-writing skills, and the ability to blend multiple formats into a compelling homepage experience.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of experience in a fast-paced digital newsroom, with experience editing or producing a major news homepage preferred.
• Excellent news judgment and a demonstrated ability to make quick, confident editorial decisions under deadline pressure.
• Exceptional headline-writing, copy-editing and communication skills. Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities at once.
• Experience working across a range of editorial formats, including written stories, live television, digital video, vertical video, data visualizations and photography.
• A strong visual sensibility and understanding of how to package journalism for a digital audience.
• Proven ability to collaborate effectively with a wide range of editorial and production teams.

Responsibilities

• Curate and manage CNBC’s new homepage, making real-time decisions about story placement, prioritization and presentation.
• Use strong news judgment to identify the most important coverage of the moment and ensure the homepage reflects CNBC’s editorial priorities across a range of article offerings, from still-developing breaking news to deeply reported analysis.
• Write and edit sharp, accurate and engaging headlines and pair them creatively with the strongest photos, graphics or videos available.
• Build visually compelling story presentations by combining written reporting with live TV interviews, digital video, data visualizations, photography and other formats.
• Collaborate closely with digital editors, reporters, television show teams, video producers, social editors, data visualization journalists and photo editors.
• Identify opportunities to elevate exclusive reporting, major live events, enterprise journalism and key CNBC storytelling.
• Edit breaking news and collaborate with the homepage team to quickly adjust coverage as stories develop.
• Maintain high editorial standards for accuracy, clarity, tone and presentation.
• Help develop new approaches to homepage storytelling that better showcase CNBC’s multiplatform journalism.

Job Description

CNBC is seeking a highly organized, sharp-thinking Homepage & News Editor to help lead the presentation of CNBC’s journalism on our newly revamped homepage and other platforms. This editor will be responsible for making fast, smart editorial decisions about how our biggest coverage is displayed, prioritized and brought to life for our audience.

The ideal candidate has excellent news judgment, strong editing and headline-writing skills, and a clear sense of how to combine a broad range of formats into a compelling homepage experience. They will work closely with reporters, editors, television producers, digital video teams, social teams, data visualization journalists and photo editors to ensure CNBC’s homepage reflects the urgency, authority and visual strength of our journalism throughout the day. This person should thrive in a fast-paced newsroom, communicate clearly across teams and remain calm and decisive as news develops.

What You’ll Do

This position is eligible for company sponsored benefits, including medical, dental and vision insurance, 401(k), paid leave, tuition reimbursement, and a variety of other discounts and perks. Salary range: $90,000-$135,000
