Job summary

COPE Community Services, Inc. seeks an entry-level Homeless Services Specialist in Tucson, AZ to provide outreach to homeless individuals including youth and families with SUDs or COD. You will assess needs and coordinate supports.

You will enroll adults in treatment, perform case management, link youth to youth-specific services, and advocate for health insurance and benefits access. This safety-sensitive role requires driving and passing a drug screen.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED; no experience required for BHPP.
  • Bachelor's or master's degree; no experience required.
  • Associate degree + 2 years behavioral health work experience.
  • High School Diploma or GED + Peer Support Specialist certification + 3 years behavioral health work experience.
  • High School Diploma or GED + 4 years behavioral health work experience.

Responsibilities

The Homeless Services Specialist will provide outreach services to Homeless individuals including youth, and families with substance use disorders (SUDs) or co-occurring mental health conditions and SUDs (COD). Staff will use Motivational Interviewing and SMART Recovery services, individual supportive care, and perform case management duties. Homeless Services Specialist will conduct outreach, enroll adults in treatment, case management, and recovery support (including benefit assessment by SOAR certified staff) and will proactively link youth to youth-specific services.

Homeless Services Specialist will focus on 1) behavioral health outreach, treatment, and recovery-oriented services; 2) coordination of housing and services to support the implementation and/or enhance long-term sustainability of integrated community systems that provide permanent housing and supportive services; and 3) effort to engage and connect individuals with SUD or COD, who are experiencing homelessness to resources for health insurance, Medicaid, and mainstream benefits programs (e.g. Supplemental Security Income(SSI)/Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI), Temporary Assistance for needy Families (TANF), Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), etc.).

Minimum Qualifications: Behavioral Health Specialist I (BHPP)
  • High school diploma or GED, no experience necessary.
Minimum Qualifications: Behavioral Health Specialist II (BHT)
  • Bachelors or master’s degree, no experience necessary.
  • Associate degree plus two (2) years behavioral health work experience.
  • High School Diploma or GED plus Peer Support Specialist certification from an AHCCCS approved training program plus three (3) years of behavioral health work experience.
  • High School Diploma or GED plus four (4) years of behavioral health work experience.

Additional Requirements:
  • Must be 21 years of age (insurance requirement) and possess a valid AZ driver’s license with a “clean” or “acceptable” driving record. An unacceptable driving record includes (but is not limited to) the following:
    • more than two [2] moving violations in the last three [3] years or;
    • more than one [1] at-fault accident within the last three [3] years or;
    • any major violation (i.e. DUI, Careless/Reckless Driving, Drag Racing, Hit and Run) within the last three [3] years.
  • Applicants must be able to pass a pre-employment drug screen.
