Job description

What You'll Be Doing

The Data Analyst will be responsible for analyzing, visualizing, and reporting Homeless Management Information System (HMIS) data to inform strategic planning, funding decisions, and system improvements within the Wake Continuum of Care (CoC). This role will support data-driven decision-making by ensuring high-quality data integrity, producing insightful reports, and developing visualizations that help stakeholders better understand trends and program effectiveness.

Key Responsibilities

Data Analysis & Visualization:

·Analyze HMIS data trends to support strategic planning and program evaluation.

·Develop clear, compelling data visualizations, dashboards, and reports for stakeholders.

·Provide actionable insights through statistical analysis and performance metrics.

·Interpret homelessness system trends to inform funding decisions and policy development.

·Provide recommendations based on data insights to improve service delivery and resource allocation.

Reporting & Compliance:

·Generate federal, state, and local reports for HUD CoC and ESG compliance and funding requirements.

·Ensure data accuracy, completeness, and consistency for required reporting.

·Collaborate on data quality initiatives, including HMIS standard adherence.

·Support the CoC, HMIS Team members in all other report requests or analysis to inform strategic planning and system improvement initiatives.

Technical Assistance and System Administration Support

·Provide staff coverage and support for the HMIS helpdesk.

·Support federal reporting efforts alongside other HMIS team members.

·Develop job aides and training materials to support CoC and user knowledge of the HMIS.

·Provide data literacy and reporting training and coaching to HMIS users in the Wake CoC.

Collaboration & Stakeholder Engagement:

·Work with CoC members, service providers, and funding agencies to translate data findings into action.

·Present reports, analyses, and visualizations in meetings, training sessions, and strategic discussions.

·Develop resources and best practices for HMIS data interpretation and use.


About Our Team

Wake County has established a new Continuum of Care department to fulfill its role as the CoC Lead Agency and key functions as Collaborative Applicant, HMIS and Coordinated Entry Lead. The County operates under a Memorandum of Understanding with the CoC for a period of 5 years. At the end of the term, the program will be evaluated to determine if and how services will be transferred.

The CoC Lead Agency is accountable to the CoC Governing Board consisting of representatives from local government, homeless and housing service providers, people with lived experience of homelessness. The CoC Governing Board is the policy-setting and decision-making body for the Wake CoC, which is responsible to the Wake CoC Membership for fulfilling its Housing and Urban Development (HUD)-defined responsibilities. The Wake CoC Governing Board is responsible for overseeing the planning, coordination of resources, and evaluation of results for the community.

The Basics (Required Education and Experience)
  • Associates degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Computer Engineering or a related field.
  • Three years of experience in data science and analytics.
  • Five years of experience in data science or analytics may be substituted for the combined education and experience requirements.
  • Equivalent education and experience are accepted

Beyond the Basics (Preferred Education and Experience)
  • Strong knowledge of HMIS systems and data management principles
  • Experience with data analysis, reporting, and presentation
  • Ability to create interactive dashboards and real-time reporting tools
  • Knowledge of relational database structures and experience working with large datasets
  • Experience with data visualization software (i.e. Power BI)
  • Experience using SQL
  • Proficient user of Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, etc.)
  • Project management principles
  • Proficient in coding languages (python, R, advanced knowledge of SQL)
