The Physical Therapy Assistant implements an individual patient therapy care plan that has been prepared by the Physical Therapist and works under the supervision of the Physical Therapist.
Primary Functions
- Identifies possible ineffective drug therapy or adverse reactions, significant side effects, drug allergies, and contraindicated medication and reports to supervisor
- Observes and records activities and findings in the clinical record and reporting to the physician the client's reaction to treatment and any changes in the client's condition
- Instructs other health team personnel including, the appropriate home health aide and family members in certain phases of physical therapy with which they may work with the client
- Participates with staff, client, and physician in discharge activities and assists the Physical Therapist in completing the Physical Therapy discharge summary within the designated framework of the Agency policies
- Communicates effectively with all those providing care
- Under the supervision of the physical therapist, assists in evaluation and development of the rehabilitative plan of care and in periodic re-evaluation as indicated
- As directed, performs routine strengthening and therapeutic exercises
- Assists in teaching exercise programs to patient and family
- Consults with the therapist regarding the outcome of home visits and reports physical findings in written form
- Writes daily progress notes on patients, and submits same within 72 hours, and prepares periodic summary reports as indicated
Supervisory Responsibilities
This position has no supervisory responsibilities.
Qualifications
- Associate's degree (A. A.) or equivalent from two-year college or technical school; or six months to one-year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience
- Communicate effectively in English (the primary language of the residents)
- Work well in a team or alone
- Organized and flexible
- Computer proficient
- Must have at least 2 years’ Physical Therapy Assistant experience.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations
- Registered Physical Therapy Assistant in the State of Florida
- CPR certification
