Job summary

Southwestern Community Action Council, Inc. seeks a Home Visitor Trainee in Wayne County, WV. This is a full-time, non-exempt trainee position designed to support early childhood development and pregnant women through family-centered home visits.

Responsibilities include planning weekly visits, promoting positive parenting, coordinating with staff, maintaining records, and helping families access community resources. Must obtain a CDA within 14 months and maintain CPR/First Aid credentials.

Qualifications

• High School graduate or GED is required.
• Must obtain a Home-Based CDA within 14 months of hire.
• Desire to work with young children and pregnant women.
• Self-motivated with ability to work without direct supervision.
• Writing skills are essential.
• Valid driver's license with a safe driving record.
• Must obtain or maintain CPR, First Aid, and any required credentials.
• Must pass drug screen and background check.

Responsibilities

• Develop a plan for each child based on individual needs and work with staff to implement it.
• Assist in weekly home visit and activity plans based on assessments and family needs.
• Promote family well-being, positive parenting, and family engagement in transitions and education.
• Use positive guidance techniques to support children's behavior, confidence, and self-esteem.
• Maintain supplies and equipment in the home in a safe, clean manner.
• Encourage parents to engage in meetings, training, and school readiness activities.
• Participate in group activities for children and parents.
• Assist pregnant women to maintain a healthy lifestyle and environment for raising their child.
• Promote interaction and language development among children and adults.
• Provide activities to develop infants' and toddlers' communication skills.
• Support development of gross motor skills in infants and toddlers.

Pay $11.81/hour

Qualifications

• High School graduate or GED.
• Must obtain a Home-Based CDA (Child Development Associate) within 14 months of hire.
• Desire to work with young children and pregnant women.
• Self-motivated with ability to work without direct supervision.

• Must obtain or maintain current CPR, First Aid, driver’s license (if required by the program), and any other necessary credentials.

Key Responsibilities

• Work collaboratively with staff to be actively engaged in developing a plan for each child based on individual needs.
• Assist the Home Visitor to develop weekly home visit and weekly activity plans based on child's assessment and identified family needs.
• Assist in promoting family well-being, positive parenting, families as lifelong educators and learners, family engagement in transitions, connections to peers and community, and families as advocates and leaders.
• Assist the Home Visitor in using positive guidance techniques to direct behavior and in developing children’s confidence and self-esteem.
• Maintain supplies and equipment used in the home in a safe and clean manner.
• Assist the Home Visitor to encourage parents to engage and participate in parent meetings, training, and school readiness activities.
• Participate in group activities/socialization for children and parents.
• Assist pregnant women to maintain a healthy lifestyle and a healthy environment to raise their child.
• Assist the Home Visitor in promoting interaction and language use among children and between children and adults.
• Assist the Home Visitor to provide activities that promote the development of communication skills of infants and toddlers by providing opportunities for each child to interact with others.
• Assist the Home Visitor in the development of the physical skills of infants and toddlers, including gross motor skills, such as grasping, pulling, pushing, crawling, walking, and climbing.
• Assist the Home Visitor in completing a developmental assessment and Behavior Checklist for each child.
