Foster Care Home Study Writer- Independent ContractorPosition

Foster Care Home Study Writers serve as independent contractors for Harmony Family Center. The primary responsibility of the position is to complete and submit home study assessments for prospective Tennessee Department of Children’s Services (DCS) traditional and kinship foster parents.

Duties include: completion of interviews with applicants, assessing home for safety by completion of DCS home study checklist, ensuring homes meet standards set forth by DCS policy for the selection of foster families, completing home study narrative using the POP (Profiles of Parenting) tool, compiling and submitting foster family file to DCS.

Qualifications are as follows:

• Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in social services, education, humanities, or related field
• Excellent interpersonal and writing skills
• Excellent organizational skills
• Excellent networking skills and knowledge of the local foster care and adoption community
• Capacity to utilize the web & web-based systems and other computer systems
• Capacity to communicate effectively with others statewide
• Capacity to function well with team, including home study manager, editor and DCS staff
• POPS certification (Profiles of Parenting)- will be provided if needed

Requirements of Independent Contractors:

• Sign consent for agency to complete background checks
• Consent to completion of drug screen
• Complete fingerprinting for TBI and FBI criminal background check
• Provide a Worker’s Compensation waiver.
• Sign the Independent Contractor Confidentiality Agreement
