Upstart, the AI-powered lending marketplace, is seeking an engineer for the Home Lending team to design, build, and scale HELOC and Mortgage products. You’ll work across the full stack using Kotlin, AWS, Kafka, Spring Boot, and Kubernetes to deliver faster, fairer financing for millions of Americans.

This remote‑first role includes quarterly onsite meetups in Columbus, Austin, or San Mateo, with competitive pay, equity, and comprehensive benefits.

Qualifications

• 4+ years of professional software engineering experience in Kotlin, Java, or C# (Kotlin preferred).
• Strong SQL database and domain modeling experience.

Responsibilities

• Build new features and services for Upstart’s Home Lending products using Kotlin, AWS, Kafka, Spring Boot, and Kubernetes.
• Identify improvements across architecture and processes to improve performance and scalability.
• Collaborate with product managers, designers, and engineers to deliver high‑quality software.
• Engage with product requirements and propose smarter technical solutions when trade‑offs are needed.
• Drive measurable improvements in reliability and customer experience.
• Contribute to a culture of quality and continuous learning.
