The Speech Language Pathologist is a role model for customer service principals and consistently monitors and implements quality improvement efforts to support the Quality Assurance/Performance Improvement philosophy of the community. The Speech Language Pathologist assures that the department functions according to federal and state regulations and accepted community quality standards, policies and procedures.

Summary

The Speech Language Pathologist is responsible for screening and evaluation of resident needs, establishing a speech therapy plan of care in conjunction with the resident, family and physician and providing speech therapy treatments. The Speech Language Pathologist is a role model for customer service principals and consistently monitors and implements quality improvement efforts to support the Quality Assurance/Performance Improvement philosophy of the community. The Speech Language Pathologist assures that the department functions according to federal and state regulations and accepted community quality standards, policies and procedures.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following: Identifies and suggests innovative approaches for quality speech therapy treatments and participates in implementing performance improvement opportunities. Maintains compliance with Presbyterian SeniorCare Network policy and procedure in accordance with governing laws, regulations, regulatory agencies, accreditation bodies and community standards. Demonstrates on a consistent basis individual and team behavior that supports the Person-Centered, Woodwell and Woodside philosophies of Presbyterian SeniorCare Network. Consistently upholds the mission, values and behavior standards of Presbyterian SeniorCare Network. Maintains confidentiality. Maintains regular and reliable attendance. Other duties may be assigned.

Supervisory Responsibilities

Assists the Director of Rehab with the supervision of the work of 1-2 casual Speech therapy employees, Clinical Fellows, and rehabilitation aides. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the PA ST Practice Act, the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include assisting with interviewing and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; addressing complaints and assisting with problem resolution.

Education And/or Experience

Minimum of a Master’s degree from an accredited college or university.

Two years as a speech language pathologist with geriatric rehabilitation experience preferred but not required.

Computer Skills

To perform this job successfully, an individual should have basic computer knowledge, knowledge of Electronic Health Records (EHR) and Microsoft Office such as Word, Excel and Powerpoint.

Certifications, Licenses, Registrations

Valid current Pennsylvania license as a Speech Language Pathologist evidenced upon hire and throughout employment. ASHA Certificate of Clinical Competency required or must meet supervisory requirements for ASHA Clinical Fellowship Year prior to licensure.

Other Skills And Abilities

Must have the ability to instruct/educate support staff, to make decisions and follow through with directions and plans to meet established goals. Must have excellent written and interpersonal communication skills. To read, write and speak English is required. Must demonstrate a working knowledge of speech/swallowing therapy evidence based treatments. Must have an understanding of the reimbursement and required documentation. Must demonstrate effective working relationships with all parties who contribute to the desired outcomes of the resident care plan.

Other Qualifications

As above. Speech Language Pathologist must have Certification of Clinical Competency (CCC) by the American Speech Language Hearing Association (ASHA) or be completing the ASHA Clinical Fellowship Year requirements.
