This position is responsible for assessing client health needs, nursing care requirement and the delivery of nursing care on all assigned clients.
Responsibilities
- ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Assesses client health needs, nursing care requirements, and delivery of nursing care on all assigned clients. Directs client assessments by other nursing staff.
- Plans care for assigned clients and directs the planning of care by other nursing staff.
- Evaluates effectiveness of plan of care; ensures responsible care is rendered to clients.
- Implements nursing actions in accordance with established standards of nursing practice and demonstrates competence in nursing care of the neonate, pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric client.

- Self Management: Holds self accountable for delivery of responsible care, demonstrates effective communication skills and interpersonal relationships.
- Assumes responsibility for own continued professional development and assists with the development of other staff members.

Experience, Training and Skills
- A minimum of one year medical/surgical nursing experience.
- Operates equipment as outlined on orientation checklists, policy and procedures. Participates in equipment inservices and competencies related to role expectations.
- Performs job skills outlined on orientation checklist as they relate to role expectations.
- Participates in Continuous Quality Improvement as required by the Health System and the job description.
- Understands and is accountable for the Health System's customer service standards.
- Psychiatric Nurse: Minimum of one year experience in inpatient, outpatient or community psychiatric nursing. NCC Psychiatric Nurse certification preferred.
Physical/Mental Requirements and Working Conditions
- Exposure to stressful situations, trauma, grief and death; able to wear PPE including latex materials or substitutes if required.
- Move freely about the facility, perform the functions of the job as outlined; good vision and hearing with or without assistive devices.
- Frequently sit/stand/walk; may require frequent postural changes (stooping, kneeling, crouching).
- Exposure to bloodborne pathogens and other potentially infectious materials; follow health system policies.
- Handle multiple tasks, work independently, maintain regular and predictable attendance, and stay awake.
- Dexterity for handling, reaching, grasping, fingering and feeling; physical demand level: Medium; lifting up to 21-50 lbs occasionally, 20 lbs frequently, and 10 lbs continuously; walking/standing as required.
