HOME HEALTH AND HOSPICE BILLING ASSISTANT
POSITION SUMMARY
The Home Health and Hospice Billing Assistant provides administrative and billing support to the Home Health and Hospice departments. This position assists with preparing, reviewing, and submitting claims; verifying patient and insurance information; maintaining accurate billing records; and following up on outstanding accounts.
The ideal candidate will be organized, detail-oriented, dependable, and comfortable working with confidential patient and financial information. Previous healthcare billing, medical office, insurance, or accounts receivable experience is preferred.
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES
- Assist with daily Home Health and Hospice billing activities.
- Review patient demographic, insurance, and billing information for accuracy.
- Assist with preparing and submitting electronic and paper claims to Medicare, Medicaid, commercial insurance companies, and other payers.
- Review claims for missing or incorrect information prior to submission.
- Assist with identifying and correcting billing errors and claim rejections.
- Monitor unpaid and outstanding claims and assist with follow-up as directed.
- Post payments, adjustments, denials, and other account activity accurately.
- Assist with processing Medicare and insurance billing requirements.
- Review Explanation of Benefits (EOBs), remittance advice, and other payer correspondence.
- Assist with denial management and provide documentation needed for claim reconsideration or appeals.li>
- Communicate with insurance companies and payer representatives regarding claim status and billing questions.
- Assist with obtaining missing information needed to complete claims.
- Work with clinical and administrative staff to resolve billing issues.
- Maintain accurate billing records and documentation.
- Assist with accounts receivable follow-up and reconciliation.
- Maintain patient confidentiality and comply with HIPAA regulations and organizational policies.
- Meet established productivity, accuracy, and billing deadlines.
- Assist the Billing/Revenue Cycle Manager with special projects and other billing-related duties as assigned.
HOME HEALTH & HOSPICE RESPONSIBILITIES
- Develop an understanding of Home Health and Hospice billing requirements and payer guidelines.
- Assist with reviewing documentation and billing information to ensure services are appropriately supported for billing.
- Assist with monitoring billing requirements related to Medicare, Medicaid, Medicare Advantage, and commercial payers.
- Help identify missing or incomplete information that may delay billing or reimbursement.
- Work cooperatively with clinical staff regarding documentation or billing discrepancies.
- Assist with timely billing of Home Health and Hospice services.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education:
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Additional education or training in medical billing, coding, healthcare administration, accounting, or related field is preferred.
Experience:
- Previous medical billing, healthcare office, insurance, accounts receivable, or revenue cycle experience preferred.
- Experience with Home Health or Hospice billing is a plus but not required.
- Candidates with strong administrative, computer, customer service, and organizational skills may be considered.

- Ability to learn and navigate healthcare billing software and payer portals.
- Strong problem-solving and follow-up skills.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- Ability to sit and work at a computer for extended periods.
- Ability to frequently use a computer, keyboard, telephone, copier, scanner, and other office equipment.
- Ability to communicate effectively in person, by telephone, and electronically.
- Ability to occasionally lift or move office supplies and materials.
